 Product Description

Hydrocarbon Flexible Coating

The Japanese are the undisputed pioneers in glass coating technology, and thanks to KAMIKAZE, we now have a brand new coating technology and complete maintenance system that sets the (very high) standards in the coating world.

Up until now, detailers and detailing enthusiasts have been forced to use high solvent-based coatings…many of which won’t pass VOC regulations, are highly flammable, and the heavy chemical smell just makes you believe that it can’t be good for you. Just watching the manufacturer’s videos where the technician is using a mask or respirator to apply the product is a good indication of what’s in the bottle!

But with ISM COAT, it is non-solvent, VOC free, and non-flammable. This is a big selling point in itself for the detailing industry!

Not only is ISM COAT a much safer and more responsible product, it also excels in its properties as a coating.

First and foremost, it is easy to apply and remove. Many coatings on the market are very difficult to apply and remove, and the manufacturers try to hide it in the name of “hardness” or “durability”. A coating doesn’t have to be difficult to apply and / or remove to be good!

Secondly, it is a great base layer coating that is strong, durable, and more resistant to water spotting than traditional glass coatings (a weakness inherent in the formula). It can be used by itself on both paint and plastic trim, or it can be a part of the complete system with using KAMIKAZE OVER COAT as the sacrificial layer. On paint, it produces a deep rich gloss like a boutique carnauba wax. Regardless of the color of the car, ISM COAT dramatically improves the looks! On black plastic trim (or items like windshield wiper arms), it will fully restore it to a deep original black, and protect it for a very long time! Just one formula works for both applications. As for durability, a proper application can last a realistic 24-36 months. KAMIKAZE doesn’t over-hype durability and hardness claims like so many other manufacturers do…they just produce a fantastic coating that will look great and last a long time.

Finally, ISM COAT provides strong water-repellent properties like a fine wax. Let’s face it…everybody loves to see fine water beading or water droplets that fly off the car when driving, and ISM COAT provides just that. And for those who want the craziest water beading available, we recommend maintaining ISM COAT with Kamikaze’s OVER COAT (sacrificial layer).

Note: Once the bottle is opened, the curing process begins. Do not leave dropper attached to bottle, and be sure to use coating within a month or so of opening.

  1. ISM on Metallic Blue - Great look.

Posted by Kurt F on 27th Oct 2016

After going through the polish, prep and putting down 2 coats of Kamikaze Miyabi Coat, decided topped it all with a coat of ISM; in for a penny, in for a pound and all that.

While application was in no way difficult (using Esoteric Applicator kit) it was interesting due to the honey-like consistency of the ISM Coat. After applying the Miyabi Coat, which is blindingly easy to apply correctly, I had to switch gears/methods a bit to apply the ISM Coat, definitely paying more attention to wiping the panel after it flashed to insure I didn't unknowingly push some of the coating to an adjacent panel while buffing it off; it sets pretty quickly so if you miss some that did get pushed to another panel it will have to be polished off to avoid the dreaded high spots.

Certainly not difficult to apply but it does require more attention than the Miyabi application. The consistency of the ISM does make it easier to do the initial application using the block/micro-suede applicator as it's very easy to see where it is applied so it's pretty tough to miss a spot/area. Hold tightly to the micro-suede wrapped around the applicator block as the ISM is a bit tackier in application.

I had planned on applying 2 coats of Miyabi and 1 of ISM in a single day but alas, sometimes life gets in the way. I ended up doing 2 coats of Miyabi one day and then the ISM the next day, wiping down the car with Gyeon Prep immediately before applying the ISM. I let the ISM flash for about 4-5 minutes in 70 degree, low humidity and then buffed off using the recommended 2-towel method.

It's been about 2 weeks since the application and the results are simply stunning on the metallic paint. I had seen anecdotal evidence regarding the ISM Coat really making metallic paint pop, some used the word 'polarizing' and they were spot on in their assessment. While the Miyabi gave the paint more of a hard, candy-like appearance, the ISM added a deep, warm glow to the car that really accentuated the metallic in the paint, bringing it to the 'top', almost appearing as if the metallic is floating in the base coat given the right light conditions. The metallic blue paint really stands out in the sunlight now, looking deep and multi-dimensional.

Durability (with the occasional addition of Kamikaze Overcoat) is expected at 24-36 months so we'll see what the future holds. The car has already been daily driven in rainy, weather and sat outside while oak and maple leaves (a *lot* of oak/maple leaves) fell on it during overnight rain storms. When next washed, no water spots are visible, bird droppings slide right off leaving no marks and the leaves, which will stain concrete, left no visible evidence of sitting on the paint either.

Driving in the rain and then pulling into the garage often leaves little evidence of inclement weather, drying with no spotting. It was noticeable that after being rained on, then sitting outside in the sun, the water drops on the horizontal surfaces (hood, roof, trunk), if they don't completely run off the car, seem to just shrink into smaller and smaller droplets until they eventually disappear, leaving behind no evidence of them being there...interesting but welcome behavior. Did the black plastic/rubber trim as well and it seems to be working wonderfully on those areas as well.

If this Kamikaze'd daily driver makes it through the winter as i expect, will be removing the current coatings from our other cars and switching to Kamikaze next Spring. Ease of use + daily performance make it a near no-brainer, especially when Overcoat thrown in the mix as a maintenance item every 1-2 months.

Thanks to the Esoteric folks for their recommendation/help along the way as well as to the Kamikaze folks for creating incredible product(s) that will insure our cars stay looking great while also reducing the time and effort required to make them pop in whatever parking lot they're in. Have received numerous compliments and questions in the last two weeks regarding why the car looks so great and "Why does your car never seem dirty when it sat next to mine in the same storm today?"

Always nice to hear that...and always nice to turn around when walking away from the car and still be amazed by it's appearance.
